Summerland Ornamental
Gardens is located at the Pacific
Agri-food Research Station located in the community of Summerland,
BC, Canada. The garden is an education complex specializing
in Xeriscape water-smart gardening of low water consumption
plants.
The 15 acre Ornamental Garden was created in
1916. The landscape of the garden includes large grass lawns,
clusters of trees and many garden plots. The garden environment
is rich in floral scents and shades of blue, yellow, red and
orange.
The garden is operated by a society of volunteers.
The volunteers conduct research seeking out various methods
of reducing stress on the worlds water supply by researching
alternative methods to reducing water consumption by plants.
Each plant is marked with descriptions and
details. The paths in the park provide visitors an opportunity
to explore the various plants in the garden at a leisurely pace.
There is a main gathering area near the historical
building on the park grounds with rock formations and steps
to an arbor. It is a popular gathering place for weddings and
