Giants Head
is a mountain destination with excellent views
located in the Okanagan Valley community of Summerland, British
Columbia, Canada. Giants Head Mountain was once a volcano. Now...
today it is a natural landmark easily viewed from the community.
Hiking to the 910 metre peak of the mountain
is rewarding. There is a viewpoint located at the top providing
views of the community of Summerland, Naramata, Okanagan Lake,
vineyards, orchards... and landmarks like the Trout Creek Bridge,
Kettle Valley Rail Trail
and Okanagan Mountain
Park.
Giants Head Mountain Park is a popular destination
for sightseers and hikers. Parking is available near the top.
It is a well maintained park with picnic tables, viewing benches
and washrooms. The picnic area is as far as you can go with a
car.
From the picnic park there are two rough hiking
trails leading to the peak of Giants Head Mountain. One trail
(15 minutes) is a challenging hike leading straight up to the
summit while the second trail (25 minutes) is longer hike with
switchbacks leading up to the summit.
How to Get to Giants Head
Mountain:
Travel on Hwy #97 into Summerland, BC. Look for
Prairie Valley Rd. near downtown and turn. Continue on Prairie
Valley Rd. and turn south onto Giant’s Head Rd and then
west onto Milne Rd. Continue following the Giant’s Head
Park signs.
